Braving the Cold for a Clinic in Vernon

They say don’t go yon over the mountains if you’re towing a Horse Trailer in the winter.

I couldn’t help myself, I was excited about taking my two young horses over to Vernon BC to teach a clinic.

The clinic was hosted by Sheila and Wally Goertz the owners of Asmara Stables, an Arabian breeding facility. Many thanks goes out to Suzanne Wallace who put a lot of energy into making the clinic the success it was, especially this late in the year.

Now, I have to agree that the auditors at this clinic be dubbed as hard-core! They sat there all weekend with horse blankets and coolers wrapped around them to stay warm. We even had Nancy Roman the editor of Saddle Up Magazine come out to watch.

I started the clinic off with a Round Pen demonstration using my two horses Casper and Junior. This gave me an opportunity to discuss how leadership and communication opens the doors to willing attitudes and respectful relationships.

For this particular clinic each horse and rider had a one-on-one session slotted with me. Because each rider combination was so different it presented many opportunities for questions and answers.

For lunch and coffee breaks everyone piled into a large heated tack room. This was a cozy spot for the hot chilly and soups being served. Most importantly for the hot chocolate, cookies and muffins I personally ate to satisfy my sweet tooth.

And now for the good news! Because the clinic was such a hit I’ll be looking forward to continuing with this enthusiastic group again in the spring. Keep an eye out for this clinic because once again we’re going to be having some serious fun as we play and work with our horses.

Hope to see you there!
